Charmaine's contract with TVB ends April, no sign of renewal

One of TV's popular actresses, Charmaine Sheh contract with TVB ends in April. Although there are 2 months to go, there is no sign of any news about renewal. Rumour has it that since Charmaine lost to another favourite TV actress, Sheren Tang over the TVB Soap Queen award, there has been a bit of sourness between the actress and the company over the details of any renewal possibilities. Earlier Charmaine revealed discretely that she has been working a lot more in the Mainland and earning more ReMinBi.

Coming from Miss Hong Kong background, Charmaine has been very loyal and has worked for TVB for nearly 13 years. She is well known to be a hard worker and also a rich due to earnings as an actress. Charmaine has starred in many TVB series such as ‘Forensic Heroes 2’, ‘The Realm of Conscience’ and ‘Can’t Buy Me Love’. All of these series received very high viewing ratings and popularity. Charmaine has been a great actress and her talent has proved her value with her productions, attracting many outside acting opportunties with advertising companies and businesses.

With Charmine’s contract with TVB approaching the last 2 months, there has been speculation on whether the company will approach the actress to discuss further on better terms and possibility of renewal. Till now, the company has show no action of this kind and Charmaine is hanging on in wait. Now that all the award ceremonies has ended, TVB presented Sheren Tang with the TVB TV Queen award and Charmaine awarded ‘My Favourite TV Series Female Character’. The wait begins on whether both parties will develop negotiations.

With the high popularity and demand for Charmaine at the moment, there is no doubt about the increase in opportunities in the Mainland. She had already made some series in Mainland recently and her salary is relatively high. Only recently Charmaine suffered a break in her work as she was injured in an accident at the airport on her way back to Hong Kong from mainland China. Thus, missing her opportunity to participate in the new TVB series ‘Forensic Heroes 3’ and Maggie Cheung was asked to take Charmaine’s role.

With the recent new management news in TVB where Chan Kwok Keung appointed as the new boss, negotiations about Charmaine staying with the company might take a turn for the better, however fans will have to wait for further news.

On the other hand, another top actor Bowie Lam’s contract with TVB comes to an end in June. So far, no signs of any renewal talk. However Bowie hinted that he is prepared not to renew his contract after it ends and wants to concentrate on work in the mainland.
